Inter-generational activities at Stanhope Barrington

On Wednesday 19th October 2022, we invited the Wheels to Meals group (who usually meet at the Church Hall) to our school for lunch and games with some of our children.

We were delighted to welcome 11 members of the club who thoroughly enjoyed their chicken dinner. Some of our children (Lewis, Jack, Jessica, Sophie, Grace and Iliza) were the waiters and waitresses serving the lunches and topping up the drinks. They then sat at the tables talking to our visitors. It was really touching to see how amazing our children were both in terms of their manners but also in terms of their thoughtfulness and kindness.

This was a fantastic opportunity for our children to build their confidence in holding conversations with different people of different generations. They were amazed to find that there was a time when computers didn’t exist!

After lunch, we all played a few games of Kurling which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It was lovely to see the different generations share this activity, sharing their enthusiasm and sense of fun and not to mention the competitiveness!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynn and Zoe from Chartwells (kitchen staff) who stayed behind and worked extra hours to make this event possible.

Comments from the children:

“It was so much fun, I wish we could do it every school day.” Jack

“It was great to play with the Nanas.” Grace (apologies to our male visitors)

“I can’t believe they didn’t have a TV or a computer when they were little.” Iliza

“Playing games with everyone was so much fun.” Lewis
