This year we have combined two of our former Pupil Voice groups: the Social Action Team and the Charities Champions to form the new Community Champions. Previously, our Social Action Team were responsible for identifying and carrying out events and activities which support our local and wider community. It was not about raising money but about taking direct action. In the recent past they have organised litter picking events and have worked with Northumbria Water on flooding defences.
One of the highlights this team achieved prior to the Covid Pandemic was their work with our local Toddler Group held in the Church Hall. Every other week the team supported the group by leading activities for younger children.
Our Charities Champions were a group of children who helped to organise fundraising events for local, national and international charities throughout the year. In recent years they have organised events to raise money for The Stanhope Silver Band, MacMillan Cancer Coffee Mornings, Children In Need and Red Nose Day. During lockdown the team organised a Skip-a-thon to raise money for Women In Need a charity in India who provide food and a safe space for women.
2023 – 2024
We are the Community Champions, Charlie, Jennifer, Wesley, Patrick, Lacey and Ethan. In our role we work together to be courageous advocates for others. We do this by raining money for charity and thinking of different ways we can support the people in our community of Weardale and beyond.
McMillian Coffee Morning – On Friday 13th October we supported the running of the Coffee Morning. It was our role to set up the hall ready to welcome in our parents and carers. We set up the cake stall and sold lots of delicious cakes to raise money for the McMillian Cancer charity. We enjoyed talking to lots of the parents.
‘I had lots of fun counting up the money and make sure everyone got the right change.’ Wesley.
‘It is nice to know we are supporting a great cause.’ Jennifer.
2022 – 2023
Our team of Community Champions are made up of children from Key Stage 2. We carry out events and activities which support our local and wider community. We come up with ways to offer support and to raise money for those in need. We have recently held our school McMillan Coffee Morning where we helped to raise £250.
We can’t wait to organise more events this year and help to support our wonderful community.
Community Champions run MacMillan Cancer Coffee Morning
On Friday 30th September 2022, our Community Champions organised our annual MacMillan Cancer Coffee Morning.
The children worked hard to set up the hall ready to welcome in our families. This was particularly exciting as it has been a long time since we have held and event like this.
Our Community Champions made excellent cake recommendations and handled the funds, raising an amazing £250 for MacMillan.
Archie said, ‘It is lovely help raise money for charity.’
We are looking forward to working together again to help to make a difference to the lives of others.
