At Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School we believe that ensuring every child has access to tasty and nutritional dinners supports their ability to learn and to develop. We work closely with the catering company, our parents and other community groups to meet the needs of our children.

About our Caterers – Chartwells Schools

We are proud to work with Chartwells Schools for your children’s school dinners. Chartwells believe that the key to fuelling young minds comes from understanding both what they need and what they enjoy, which is why they develop nutritious and delicious food that pupils love, alongside helping to ensure a healthy body and mind. Their passionate chefs work closely with us to ensure every child receives a nutritionally balanced meal at school, perfectly suited to meet their needs and dietary requirements.

They create menus that are delicious, seasonal and healthy, using carefully selected ingredients, helping to reduce waste and build a more sustainable world for our future generations.

Chartwells Schools dedicates time and resources to education surrounding mental and physical wellbeing, including nutrition and food habits, to encourage our pupils to engage with, learn, and enjoy food while developing crucial social skills. Chartwells’ Food Super Heroes make food education fun, whatever the age, and their tasty theme days encourage children to make the most of their school meal. To find out more about Chartwells, visit their website or contact the school catering team.

Medical Diets

We know that feeding children with food allergies or intolerance can cause a lot of anxiety for both parents and schools. That’s why Chartwells have implemented a market-leading allergens process, and make sure every step is taken to ensure that our students can enjoy school meals safely with their friends. More information on their medical diet process can be found here. (Email address is chartwells.medicaldiets@compass-group.co.uk.)

School Dinner Prices

Please note that from Monday 17th April 2023, the cost of a school meal will increase to £2.41 per meal. If you pay weekly the cost will be £12.05 per week and if you pay half termly the cost will be £67.48. As usual, all payments should be made via Parent Pay.

Choosing a Dinner

Please sit down with your child to discuss and agree their meal options. It is important your child selects the food of their choice and not the parent choosing for them. This choice relates to the main course options only. Your child can select their preferred pudding on the day. Choosing dinners together will ensure that your child enjoys their school dinner and it helps to reduce food wastage.

Ms Zoe Yurek - Kitchen Assistant
Hi my name is Zoe. I was born in Lancashire and lived there until I retired from my role as a Children's Learning Disability/Autism Nurse specialising in behaviour. I moved to Weardale 2 days before Christmas 2020 with my horse Charlie and dog Ebony. Ebony is quite famous as she was interviewed with me for newspapers and live on the radio for her contribution as a therapy dog.

I also enjoy lots of creative crafts including pottery, crocheting, painting/drawing, sewing and needle felting.
